TUMOR BANK

Director: Prof. Anne Janin
Coordinator: Dominique Bondoux

A tumor bank is a structure allowing the collection and preservation of well-defined histological frozen tumors. Cancer therapies require a precise identification of the lesion. Thus, rely on histopathological criteria the pathologist brings invaluable data which are further completed nowadays by biological molecular analyses applied on these frozen samples.

The implementation of a tumor bank makes more comfortable handling of these frozen tumor samples coming from biopsies, whose some very small are obtained using imagery techniques (biopsy under scanner or ultrasound, endoscopy). Sample management needs nevertheless the application of stringent rules for freezing which are taken over on site by the software Tumorotek. This software ensures quality guarantee of tissue preservation knowledge together with a part of the clinical data.

The preservation of tissue samples that are well documented and available for everyone serves two objectives: therapy and research. Completing additional molecular studies for the benefit of the patient, this allows conducting both immediate protocols for existing target therapies, and later towards prospective clinical researches on these samples to identify prognostic factors in a given pathology.
