IFR 105

The Federative Institute of Biomedical Research "Saint-Louis - Institut Universitaire d' Hématologie (IUH)" created in 2000 and formed of teams from INSERM, CNRS, CEA, University Paris 7 and AP-HP, has two major objectives:
1- to develop fundamental and clinical research causing co-operations in four major axes turned towards hematology, cancerology and transplantation
2- to create technical facilities and shared resource centers including tumor banks, bioexperimentation, murine model pathology, microdissection, cellular imaging and genomics.

The IUH-IFR 105
affirms its development strategy of a clinical and fundamental research primarily focused on the transfer of medical tools to human therapeutics.

The "IFR 105 Saint-Louis" federates 14 Research teams (INSERM, CNRS, CEA and University research teams), collective services and 11 medical departments from the "Hôpital Saint-Louis".

The IFR activity is articulated around 4 main research axes.
These axes mainly focuse on the biology of tumors (malignant hemopathies essentially) and therapeutic innovations. All axes contain fundamental and clinical programs. They are organized from the cognitive research (axis 1) to therapeutic transfer aims (axis 4), in perfect accordance with the specificity of the "Hôpital Saint-Louis".

Research axes

AXIS 1 - Functional genomics and tumor biology

AXIS 2 - Fundamental bases of oncogenesis, angiogenesis and metastases

AXIS 3 - Immunology, histocompatibility, transplantations and cell therapies

AXIS 4 - Clinical research and statistical methodology

AXIS 1 - Functional genomics and tumor biology
This axis resting largely on tumor banks, aims at establishing the molecular portraits of tumors by using methods of high-throughput analysis of chromosomal profile and RNA and protein expression. It defines useful molecular signatures to create new diagnostic tools.

AXIS 2 - Fundamental bases of oncogenesis, angiogenesis and metastases
Axis 2 uses strategies of cellular and molecular biology to understand the role of key genes in tumoral transformation, angiogenesis and metastatic invasion and progression.
It is based largely on imaging platforms and bioexperimentation department to create and use leukemia and cancer models.

AXIS 3 - Immunology, histocompatibility, transplantations and cell therapies
Axis 3 is centred on immnology and organ transplantation. In addition to fundamental immunology projects, it develops new therapeutic tools based on cell and gene therapies.

AXIS 4 - Clinical research and statistical methodology
This axis focuses on therapeutics and on innovative trials of phase I-II and phase III. It strongly interacts with national and international co-operation groups in hematology.
